My 600-lb Life season 11 star Wess Schulze had one of the most inspiring stories, and it’s time to share an update about his weight loss journey. When his My 600-lb Life episode began, Wess was 36 years old and weighed in at 705 pounds. He explained that his weight gain began at a young age, when he grew up associating large meals with his father Rick’s love. His parents got divorced when he was three, and his father got custody because his mother was an alcoholic. Wess shared that a family member molested him and took his childhood away from him. He didn’t want to form attachments, so he made himself undesirable by eating and gaining weight.
Wess from My 600-lb Life also revealed that he is gay. When he came out to his father, it was met with resistance. Wess felt abandoned emotionally, and food became a bigger source of comfort. He eventually sought help from renowned bariatric surgeon Dr. Younan Nowzaradan, known as Dr. Now. Wess was approved for weight loss surgery, and his father was his support system through all of it. He also saw a therapist, Dr. Paradise, who helped him work through the issues that stemmed from his childhood trauma. Wess and his father finally talked about what happened to him. At the end of his My 600-lb Life episode, Wess had lost a total of 228 pounds, and weighed 477 pounds. Wess is an aspiring actor, and was finally able to see a play with his father, which made him very happy. It’s time to find out whether Wess has been able to stick to Dr. Now’s program.
