Deborah Chow, director of Obi-Wan Kenobi, has recently opened up about her experiences on the show, including Ewan McGregor’s ideas for a second season. Since Obi-Wan Kenobi ended, many have wondered if the show would be renewed for season 2. It remains the case that Lucasfilm viewed the story as a limited series, though there have been some hints from those involved in Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s creation that a second outing is not entirely off the table.

These hints continued in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in which Obi-Wan Kenobi director Deborah Chow outlined her experience as part of 2022’s Star Wars show. One of these experiences was her connection with star Ewan McGregor, who reportedly has several ideas for a continuation of the titular Jedi’s story:

“Ewan and I finished our very last shot on second unit, and I was literally taking off my headphones, he was already pitching me ideas for season two. There’s another 10 years with plenty of stories, and I don’t think it’s off the board. It is a ‘never say never’ situation, but we really did conceive this to be a limited series.”

Chow’s comments certainly highlight the love Ewan McGregor has for his Star Wars character. This was exemplified by his willingness to return to Star Wars after so long, with his constant pitching to Chow showcasing McGregor’s obvious desire to continue playing the character. Whether an Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 will happen remains to be seen, but it is evident the star responsible for the titular character has several ideas of how the story could continue.

Would Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 Feature More Darth Vader?

Whenever Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 is mentioned, the question not far behind is whether the potential continuation would feature more of Hayden Christensen’s Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker. However, based on what is known about the wider Star Wars saga, Darth Vader should not appear in Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2. When the first season was announced and Vader’s inclusion was confirmed, many wondered how the series would get around the idea of the meeting of Vader and Obi-Wan nestled between Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.

The series managed this perfectly, offering up an exceptionally emotional, heartbreaking reunion between the two while adequately setting up their confrontation aboard the Death Star a decade later. If Vader were to encounter Kenobi again, Lucasfilm would risk going back to that well one too many times. Instead, Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 should focus more on the titular character’s time in hiding on Tatooine, with no better story tease than his connection with Liam Neeson’s Qui-Gon Jinn at the end of the first season.
