Lata is one of the newest members of the Supernatural universe. The Winchesters has hinted she’s holding on to a secret. Now, it’s finally revealed.

Warning: Spoilers for The Winchesters season 1 episode 11The Winchesters has hinted that Latika Desai (Nida Khurshid) had a secret, and it finally revealed what it was. Lata is practically family to the Campbells. She’s been helping with research for a while and only recently started the hunting side of things. She carries her books around much as Sam Winchester relied on his laptop during cases. While Lata is hunting with Mary Campbell (Meg Donnelly), John Winchester (Drake Rodger), and Carlos Cervantez (Jojo Fleites), she still doesn’t believe in violence.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Lata gave an abbreviated version of why she became a pacifist in The Winchesters season 1 episode 6, “Art of Dying.” Her father had gone to war and come back a different person, which made her act small until it made her angry and got someone hurt. However, her real truth is much darker than that. In The Winchesters season 1 episode 11, “You’ve got a Friend,” Lata is forced to reveal her secret to Carlos. It was an emotional scene between them that should only make them closer.

Lata Feels Guilt Over Her Father’s Actions On The Winchesters

Lata’s father had a work party, and she took some leftovers to share with her family housekeeper, Sonia, who practically raised her. Lata’s father was so mad when he discovered food had been taken but thought it was Sonia and went to hit her. Instead, Lata hit him first. Her family was so ashamed of her that she left. Only her father took out his anger on Sonia by locking her in the separate servants’ quarters and letting her freeze to death. Lata has been carrying this guilt for years, afraid her friends would also be ashamed of her too.

Lata also revealed to Carlos that her parents are alive. She thought it was easier to say they were dead than to explain why she no longer spoke to them. However, viewers already knew her mother was alive. In The Winchesters season 1 episode 3, “You’re Lost Little Girl,” she calls her family for help on a case and tells them to tell her mother she is safe. There was clearly a falling out, but it wasn’t clear what had happened.

Carlos isn’t fazed that Lata’s parents are still alive and says they’re dead to him after what they did. She’s still worried about what John and Mary may think, but Carlos reassures her they won’t love her any less. Lata’s actions may have unintentionally killed Sonia, but it wasn’t her fault, which she still hasn’t figured out yet. Although, some of the burden is lifted now that Carlos knows her secret. Carlos’s backstory in The Winchesters was also recently revealed.

Lata’s Reveal Will Make Her Inevitable Death On The Winchesters Worse

Lata on The Winchesters

Lata’s emotional confession to Carlos will make fans love her even more. She’s so loyal and compassionate. Her guilt over something that wasn’t even her fault deepens her character. Unfortunately, this will make her inevitable death harder for fans to take. While Dean Winchester and Castiel’s deaths were major shocks, Lata’s fate seems pretty clear. She’s never mentioned on the original show, so she probably dies before Supernatural. Episodes of The Winchesters like this will ensure her death is just as heartbreaking, even if it’s not as shocking.
