The Conners season 5 has cast a legendary EGOT-winner as an upcoming guest star. The long-running series is in and of itself a continuation of another long-running series, Roseanne, which ran for 10 seasons on ABC beginning in 1988. The Conners began its life as a Roseanne reboot in 2018 but was retooled when star Roseanne Barr was fired for her controversial online posts, instead refocusing on her character’s family and her widowed husband Dan (John Goodman), who has now married Louise Goldufski, played by Katey Sagal.
Per Deadline, Whoopi Goldberg has been tapped to guest star on an upcoming episode of The Conners season 5. Goldberg is an iconic actor and host of The View who became the first Black woman to win an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. On her episode, she will play Ms. Glen, a strict music teacher who terrorizes Mark (Ames McNamara) but also has a hidden connection with another member of his family.
The Conners’ Biggest Guest Stars Explained
Goldberg is a hardworking performer with nearly 200 credits under her belt. Although her focus has largely shifted to The View in recent years, she has still found time to appear on various television series including reprising her Star Trek role as Guinan on Paramount+’s Star Trek: Picard. However, this is still an incredible get for The Conners, which have proven its ability time and again to draw in iconic stars thanks to the show’s broad appeal and strong ratings.
Guest stars who have appeared on The Conners in its five-season run so far include Mary Steenburgen, Juliette Lewis, Justin Long, Jason Alexander, and Dan Aykroyd. The show has even drawn in legendary non-actors including musician Ozzy Osbourne and football player Aaron Rodgers. In a clever homage, another guest spot was given to Scrubs alum Sarah Chalke to honor her stint on the original Roseanne as a replacement for Lecy Goranson as Becky Conner.
However, The Conners season 5 has continued to up the ante. Most recently, Third Rock from the Sun and Saturday Night Live icon Jane Curtin joined the series as Dan’s disapproving mother-in-law. If they continue to be able to pull off such big swings as the series continues, the inevitable season 6 is going to be completely star-studded.
