A classic comedy horror movie directed by John Landis is one of the scariest films heading to Shudder in June 2023. Here are all the release dates for the new TV series and movies coming out via the streaming service this month.
On Thursday, June 1, Shudder subscribers can watch the beloved An American Werewolf in London on their favorite streamer. Released in 1981, the story sees two American friends attacked by a werewolf in England. As a result, one of them turns into a werewolf himself. While the premise seems pretty frightening, Landis — who also penned the script — added much humorousness to savvily dose the horror and the comedy moments. Fans flocked to watch the movie which grossed $62 million over a $5.8 production budget, leading to the 1997 An American Werewolf in Paris sequel, although not as successful as the first movie. It stars David Naughton, Jenny Agutter, Griffin Dunne, and John Woodvine, among others. The film is also remembered for winning the first-ever Oscar for Best Makeup.
On June 9, Shudder will also release Brooklyn 45. Written and directed by Ted Geoghegan, the period horror piece follows old friends gathering to mourn the loss of a dear at the close of World War II. When an unplanned séance goes wrong, the friends discover they don’t know each other as well as they believed. Brooklyn 45 premiered at this year’s SXSW with positive reviews from critics. The cast features Anne Ramsay, Ron E. Rains, Jeremy Holm, Larry Fessenden, Ezra Buzzington, and Kristina Klebe.
