The Scream 2022 cast helped reignite the franchise bringing in a batch of victims that is full of new and old faces. The Scream franchise began with Wes Craven’s 1996 film, one that revived the slasher genre for a new generation with a meta twist. Serving as a commentary on the slasher boom of the 1980s, Scream riffed on the ridiculousness of the genre while serving up gory kills and a twisty reveal with every movie, along with a host of iconic characters. The Scream 2022 cast brought back several of those favorites while setting the stage for a new generation to take over the franchise.

At the center of the Scream franchise is Sidney Prescott, a woman from Woodsboro who is consistently terrorized by Ghostface. There to assist Sidney in her attempts to stop Ghostface are Gale Weathers and Dewey Riley. Scream 2022 also introduced a new group of young would-be victims that Ghostface was after which includes some characters with surprising ties to the franchise’s past. Some of the Scream 2022 cast became the new faces of the franchise while others just added to its body count.

Neve Campbell As Sidney Prescott

As the Scream franchise’s original Final Girl, Sidney Prescott is integral to the films and Neve Campbell returned as the now-iconic character for perhaps the last time in Scream 2022. The long-awaited sequel confirmed that Sidney was off living her own life outside of Woodsboro with her husband Mark from Scream 3 and some kids. But with the arrival of a new Ghostface and the death of a close friend, Sidney returns to show the new generation why she is the best.

Despite surviving Scream 2022, Sidney doesn’t return in Scream 6 and it is revealed she and her family are in hiding. Besides the Scream franchise, Campbell is known for roles in iconic ’90s hits like Wild Things and The Craft, as well as a guest stint in House of Cards. She will also appear in the upcoming series Twisted Metal.

Courteney Cox As Gale Weathers

Courteney Cox reprises her role of Gale Weathers in Scream 2022, still seen as the tenacious reporter. The sequel explores the failed romance between Gale and Dewey while showing that there is clearly still a lot of love between them. That is part of Gale’s motivation in teaming up with Sidney again to put a stop to the killer’s murderous rampage. Gale manages to escape the legacy sequel alive to be the only one of the original trio of heroes to appear in Scream 6. Cox is best known as Monica Gellar on Friends while also starring for several seasons on the sitcom Cougar Town.

David Arquette As Dewey Riley

The final returning legacy character, David Arquette is back as Dewey Riley, former Woodsboro sheriff. Scream 2022 finds Dewey a bit of a broken man, haunted by his many near-death experiences and losing Gale. However, when the new young heroes of the movie come looking for him, Dewey becomes something of a mentor. Shockingly, Scream 5 kills Dewey halfway through the movie, raising the stakes and showing that no one is safe. Arquette’s long career in movies and television has included roles in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer film and Hamlet 2.

Melissa Barrera as Sam Carpenter

Melissa Barrera plays Sam Carpenter, the newest Scream protagonist. Sam is lured back to her home of Woodsboro after leaving years earlier when her sister is attacked by the new Ghostface. Sam is also hiding a secret about her connection to Ghostface as she is actually the illegitimate daughter of the original Scream killer Billy Loomis. This not only makes her a target for the new killer but also has her grappling with her father’s dark influence on her. Barrera starred in 2021’s critically acclaimed musical In The Heights and will also reteam with Scream directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett for an untitled monster movie.

Jenna Ortega as Tara Carpenter

Jenna Ortega stars as Tara Carpenter, sister to Sam. She is responsible for one of the firsts in the franchise as she actually survives a run in with Ghostface in the Scream 2022 opening scene. The attack draws Sam back to Woodsboro where the estranged sisters reunite and form a bond that allows them to take on the killer together. This sister team continues on in Scream 6. Ortega plays the titular role in Tim Burton’s Netflix series Wednesday and is set to reteam with Burton in Beetlejuice 2. She’s also become something of a modern scream queen with roles in X and Studio 666.

Jack Quaid as Richie Kirsch

Jack Quaid stars in Scream as Richie Kirsch, the boyfriend of Sam. While he initially seems like he is the caring if somewhat overwhelmed partner of the hero, Scream 2022’s killer reveal has Richie as the mastermind behind the whole thing. Commenting on the culture of toxic fandom, Richie is a Stab franchise fanatic who wants to help bring the movie’s back to their roots by making Sam the killer for a new generation. Thankfully, his plan doesn’t work out and Sam brutally stabs him to death. Quaid has made appearances in several films, including The Hunger Games, but he’s best known for his role as Hughie in Prime Video’s hit series The Boys. He will next be seen in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.

Jasmin Savoy Brown as Mindy Meeks-Martin

Jasmin Savoy Brown stars in Scream as Mindy Meeks-Martin. Longtime fans of the franchise recognized Mindy’s last name, as Meeks was also the surname of Jamie Kennedy’s fan-favorite character Randy. Mindy takes over her uncle’s role in the sequel by being the horror expert of the group who is known to suspect anyone of being the killer. Though she is stabbed in the final act, Mindy survives to return in Scream 6. Savoy Brown stars as the teen version of Taissa in Yellowjackets.

Mason Gooding as Chad Meeks-Martin

Mason Gooding stars as Chad Meeks-Martin, Mindy’s brother and nephew of Randy Meeks. Like his sister, Chad is attacked by Ghostface in the final act of the movie but is shown to be alive at the end. He returns in Scream 6 where he starts a romance with Tara while also coining the term Core Four to describe himself, Mindy, Tara and Sara as the new main characters of the franchise. Gooding previously appeared in Olivia Wilde’s directorial debut Booksmart and also had a main role in Hulu show Love, Victor.

Scream 5 Supporting Characters

Mikey Madison as Amber Freeman

Mikey Madison stars as Amber Freeman in Scream 2022, the best friend of Tara. While she initially seems protective of Tara and untrusting of her estranged sister Sara, it proves to all be an act as Amber is revealed to be the second Ghostface killer in the movie and Richie’s actual girlfriend. Despite killing Dewey, Amber gets her comeuppance when she is set on fire and then shot dead. Freeman is most known for her role in FX’s Better Things and as playing another would-be killer in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood where she meets a similarly fiery end.

Dylan Minette as Wes Hicks

Dylan Minette stars in Scream 2022 as Wes Hicks, the son of Judy Hicks. Minette’s character’s name is a tribute to original Scream director Wes Craven. He is a childhood friend of Sam and her sister Tara, even hinting at a long-held crush on Sam fromm when she was his babysitter. Despite being set up as a key character, Wes is the first of the new cast of friends to be killed by Ghostface who surprises him in his home. In addition to 13 Reasons Why, Minette has also starred in Don’t Breathe, Prisoners and the acclaimed limited series The Dropout.

Sonia Ben Ammar as Liv McKenzie

Sonia Ben Ammar appears in Scream as Liv McKenzie, the girlfriend of Chad. Out of the new cast of characters, Liv gets the least to do. She is brought up as a potential Ghostface killer a number of times before Amber shoots her when revealed herself as the true killer. Scream is Ammar’s first major movie role but she will soon be seen in The Equalizer 3 and Megalopolis.

Marley Shelton as Judy Hicks

Marley Shelton reprises her Scream 4 role as Judy Hicks. Formerly a deputy, Judy is now the sheriff of the Woodsboro Police Department. However, her position of authority does not save her as Judy is lured into a trap when Ghostface threatens her son Wes and Judy is brutally stabbed in broad daylight. Shelton has appeared in movies like Planet Terror, Sin City, and Pleasantville. She is also part of the cast of the Yellowstone spinoff series 1923.

Kyle Gallner as Vince Schneider

Kyle Gallner plays Vince Schneider in Scream 2022. He is set up to be a very clear red herring as the creepy and threatening older boy who had a brief fling with Liv. However, the movie cleverly plays against this trope by killing Vince off almost immediately, ending any suspicion that he is really Ghostface. Gallner is a horror veteran, having appeared in Jennifer’s Body, Red State and the recent Smile.
