While celebrating Mother’s Day, Christina In The Country star Christina Hall reflected on her difficult custody battle with ex-husband Ant Anstead. Ant filed for sole custody of son Hudson in April 2022, and though this was rejected, it set off a legal battle that raged on until December. Christina also publicly feuded with Selling Sunset‘s Heather Rae Young, the stepmother to her two kids with first husband and former Flip or Flop co-host Tarek El Moussa. Christina is currently married to Josh Hall.

Reflecting on the toll that stressful time took, Christina shared a moment that gave her hope. “Crazy how much life can change in a year,” Christina captioned a photo of her kids on Instagram, recalling the “very bad place” she was in last Mother’s Day. The Christina on the Coast star called out the “extremely unnecessary custody battle,” also listing “family issues,” health scares, and more. During the “worst month,” she had to move into a temporary rental. Upon arriving, Christina became emotional over the property owner’s care package, which led to a “vulnerable” conversation. It turned out the owner went through a similar situation with her own blended family.

During the custody battle, the HGTV star’s character and parenting skills were blasted by Ant, whom she separated from in September 2020. On Instagram, Christina, who is currently married to Josh, wrote, “I know I’ve made mistakes but I know what I’ve done right.” She continued, “I know with all my heart my kids love me…and I know I’m a good mom…life is crazy but being a mama makes it all worth it.” Fortunately, Christina recalled that, not long after her conversation with the property owner, things began to turn around. She advised followers who were going through similar things to remain hopeful.

Christina finding the contentious custody battle “extremely unnecessary” isn’t surprising. The 39-year-old repeatedly made it clear she did not want to be going through such a public legal fight. She attempted to appease Ant and stopped sharing photos of Hudson on social media. But the Brit continued to post about the 3-year-old and make public attacks against his mother. Though she was more private than her ex for a while, Christina publicly slammed Ant’s alleged manipulation tactics in October 2022, claiming his behavior negatively impacted her entire family. The exes continued making allegations about one another until they reached an agreement.

After such a publicly messy 2022, Christina plans to be more private on her latest HGTV series, Christina In The Country, which premiered in January. After she moved from Orange County, this show follows her flipping houses in Tennessee with husband Josh, who is also an executive producer. Though her son Brayden and daughter Taylor make appearances, she keeps Hudson off camera, Meanwhile, her co-parenting with Tarek has reportedly improved, as she publicly congratulated him and Heather on the birth of son Tristan.
