Lucy Hale discusses whether she would be interested in appearing in season 2 of the show’s spinoff series, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin. Venturing a few miles away from Rosewood, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin follows a group of teenagers living in Millwood, Pennsylvania who receive threatening messages from the latest, but still-masked “A” regarding a tragedy their mothers were involved with in 1999. While season 2 of the spinoff has not yet been released, it will be retitled Pretty Little Liars: Summer School and will likely air in late 2023 or early 2024.
Speaking with TVLine prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike, Hale, who played Aria in the original Pretty Little Liars, addressed her openness to appearing in the PLL universe once again. Excited that the series continues to draw viewership, Hale stated that she “definitely” would consider cameoing and thinks the experience would “be fun.” See Hale’s full comments below:
“Would I be open to a cameo? Yeah, definitely. I think that would be fun. I’m so happy that that show is doing well, and I can’t wait to see the second season. I love that they’re kind of doing different themes per season.”
What An Aria Cameo Could Mean For Pretty Little Liars: Summer School
Viewers last saw Aria during the series finale of Pretty Little Liars, where she marries longtime partner Ezra Fitz following an hour of “A”-induced hurdles. She later shares that she and Ezra plan to meet with an adoption agency after they return from their honeymoon. Notably, in the finale of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, lead Imogen Adams (Bailee Madison) reveals that the Rosewood couple have adopted her baby. Perhaps a Hale cameo could result in some interactions between Imogen and Aria, or force Aria to enter A’s orbit once more.
At the time of its release, Pretty Little Liars was one of the most talked-about shows on Twitter, receiving thousands of retweets and memes inspired by each episode. Although the spinoff does not have quite as devoted of an audience as the original, reintroducing a favored character could call forth original Pretty Little Liars supporters. Perhaps this thinking could also explain the show’s decision to bring back Dr. Sullivan (Annabeth Gish) in season 2.
Although there is still much to discover about Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin season 2, fans of the original series would likely celebrate seeing Aria once again navigate a world riddled with cryptic texts. Luckily, Hale seems to share the opinion that more could be added to her character’s story, so an Aria cameo isn’t out of the question. As long as Pretty Little Liars lives on, there’s always a chance.
