Even before the movie was released, Gunn knew there was room to explore Cena’s DC character in more depth. HBO Max quickly greenlit his plans for Peacemaker, an eight-episode original series that marked the first DCEU TV show. James Gunn is now the official head of the DCU, recently releasing his plans for the first DCU chapter, titled “Gods and Monsters.”
The story of Peacemaker season 1 picked up shortly after the events of The Suicide Squad when Smith was released from the hospital and recruited to a new Task Force X team. The roster included Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) and John Economos (Steve Agee) from The Suicide Squad, as well as Amanda Waller’s daughter Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks) and the mysterious leader Clemson Murn (Chukwudi Iwuji). They were tasked with stopping an alien invasion known as Project Butterflies, but Peacemaker also had to battle his racist father, Auggie Smith, a.k.a. White Dragon (Robert Patrick). Peacemaker season 1 packed plenty of surprises as the titular character was explored, leading to its explosive finale. The Latest Peacemaker Season 2 News
Along with his many other DC updates, James Gunn provided news on Peacemaker season 2 (via The Direct), confirming that season 2 begins shooting in a “few months.” It’s expected that the principal Peacemaker cast will return for the next installment. While there is no concrete release date yet, the fact that filming starts in spring 2023 could indicate an arrival in late 2023 or early 2024. Due to that, there isn’t anything currently available regarding promotional pieces, set photos, the show’s storyline, cast news, or a trailer.
Peacemaker Season 2 Is Confirmed
As noted, Peacemaker season 2 has already been announced by WarnerMedia and HBO Max. The news originally came from James Gunn and John Cena on the eve of Peacemaker‘s finale airing, as the creator and star shared the exciting update on social media. It has been confirmed that Peacemaker season 2 and its iconic dance sequence will apparently consist of seven episodes, all written and directed by Gunn himself (via The Digital Fix).
Peacemaker Season 2 Predicted Release Date
Even though another season has been confirmed, there is no Peacemaker season 2 release date. Unlike most TV shows (especially ones that are this popular), it is known that there will be a bit of a wait for the show’s return. Gunn has been busy working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for Marvel Studios, which kept him busy and then he has also confirmed he’ll wrap production on Waller before starting Peacemaker (via Small Screen). For that reason, the hit DCU show likely won’t return until 2024.
Peacemaker Season 2 Cast
The good news for Peacemaker season 2 is that most of the main cast members should be back in some capacity, despite no announcements from James Gunn thus far. John Cena will obviously be back to star as the peace-loving anti-hero. Jennifer Holland should return to continue Harcourt’s recovery and possibly move forward with a relationship with Smith. Economos is shown back at Belle Reve prison, so Steve Agee could return too. Danielle Brooks might even be back after Adebayo realizes she is cut out for this life. It also seems probable that Freddie Stroma will return as Vigilante, while Nhut Le’s Judomaster can also come back. Peacemaker season 2 might also still involve Robert Patrick’s Auggie after the finale set up Chris seeing his father’s ghost. Audiences could even see Viola Davis take on a bigger role as Amanda Waller in Peacemaker season 2.
Peacemaker Season 2 Story
The Peacemaker season 1 ending mostly does a great job of wrapping up its main story ahead of season 2. The Butterflies were defeated, but it is the aftermath of this event that will likely influence what comes next. Adebayo reveals the dirty secrets of Task Force X and ARGUS to the public, confirming that the Butterflies were here and that Peacemaker was framed for having prior knowledge of them. She even directly outs her mother, Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), as the mastermind behind the operation. All that’s confirmed for season 2 is that it takes place after Waller (via Small Screen).

Given that Peacemaker season 2 hasn’t begun filming yet, there is no Peacemaker season 2 trailer. That being said, James Gunn has been tasked with writing and directing the entire season, and it’s unknown where Peacemaker season 2 is in the writing stages. Of note, the season 1 teaser arrived about three months before the show premiered so it could be a while before any footage is showcased.
