Warning! Contains spoilers for Knight Terrors: Nightwing #2!Two members of the Bat-Family have gotten an amazing distinction thanks to Nightwing. While trapped in a nightmare, Dick Grayson reveals which two of his allies are some of Gotham’s deadliest heroes.
In Knight Terrors: Nightwing #2 by Becky Cloonan, Michael Conrad, and Daniele Di Nicuolo, Dick is still trapped in Nightmare Realm, with his bad dream making him a prisoner of Arkham Asylum. Nightwing can only watch helplessly as Barbara Gordon, now a mechanical monstrosity, is hauled away by pig-like guards. With no other heroes around, Dick is forced to team up with the creepy Batman villain Scarecrow to find a way out of their upside-down prison.
Nightwing seizes a handmade map of the Asylum from Scarecrow. Unfortunately, the Asylum’s layout has shifted, rendering the drawing virtually useless. Scarecrow ponders how the other members of the Bat-Family are doing while imprisoned. Batgirls Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown are doing just fine. Cass is slightly bloody, clutching the mask of Bane while Steph is giving a swirlie to the Ventriloquist. Scarecrow mentions how dangerous the ‘girl Bats’ are, something Dick agrees with before the two exit their room.
Nightwing Believes the Batgirls are the Bat-Family’s Best Fighters
The DC Universe has come under attack by the creepy new metahuman threat Insomnia. Thanks to powers granted to him by the Lazarus Resin storms during Lazarus Planet, Insomnia has cast a powerful sleeping spell across the Earth that’s trapped hero and villain alike. Nearly everyone in the DCU is being tormented by manifestations of their worst fears and feelings. For Nightwing, he’s locked up in Arkham Asylum with the worst criminals in Gotham after being accused of killing Batman.
Thankfully, this is all just a bad dream, and Batman is fine. But like everyone else, Knight Terrors is providing a look into the minds of DC’s greatest characters. While the jury’s out on what Dick killing Bruce means for Nightwing, the former Boy Wonder’s dream does reveal one interesting thought. Out of all the members of the Bat-Family, Dick apparently considers the Batgirls the team’s best fighters. After all, everything in Knight Terrors: Nightwing is in Dick’s head, which means on some level, he holds this belief to be true.
Nightwing Isn’t as Dangerous as any Batgirl
Nightwing is one of Batman’s oldest partners and he’s seen a lot of heroes prove their worth as members of the Bat-Family. He’d know better than most who has the best fighting abilities among Batman’s coterie of crime fighters. Between Cass’ lifelong training and Steph’s improvisational skills, there’s no doubt the two have repeatedly shown Dick what they’re capable of (certainly enough times for him to store that information in the recesses of his mind). If Dick believes that the Batgirls are the Bat-Family’s most dangerous fighters, then there’s no arguing against it. Fans can see more of what’s on Dick’s mind in Knight Terrors: Nightwing #2, on sale August 15th.
