The trinity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor, come together while getting their classic comics-accurate costumes in new fan art. As the MCU is introducing new heroes and fleshing out established ones, it has still been a transition period when it comes to moving on without two of the three heroes that began the franchise. While Thor is still around, Tony Stark and Steve Rogers’ adventures came to a conclusion in Avengers: Endgame, with Iron Man sacrificing himself while Captain America retired and passed on the mantle to Sam Wilson.

Nevertheless, it’s hard not to miss the beloved MCU trinity that was integral to the first three phases of the popular Avengers franchise. Artist Art of Time Travel, a popular digital artist, agrees, bringing Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, and Chris Hemsworth’s respective characters together with some classic costume designs.

Even though the MCU gave the trio several designs for their suits over many films, the fan art sees Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America get their more traditional-looking costumes from the comics. Despite Marvel Studios adapting the costumes as close to the comics as possible, it made sense why they had to make certain updates for the old-school designs.

Will Iron Man, Captain America & Thor Ever Reunite In The MCU?

Iron Man Captain America and Thor in MCU

As the MCU gets further into Phase 5, they are getting closer to the major Avengers films that are being set up for Phase 6 with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. While The Multiverse Saga will see new and old heroes united later on, it still begs the question if Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America will be reunited in some capacity. Even though Tony is dead, and possibly Steve, too, there are numerous ways for the iconic MCU trio to come together once again.

Time travel and multiverse Variants are becoming more frequently used within the MCU, which leaves the door open for Evans and Downey Jr. to come back at any point. Given the massive focus on alternative realities in The Multiverse Saga, it would almost be shocking if the next Avengers movies didn’t have the two actors appear as at least one Variant version of Captain America and Iron Man.

If they were to somehow travel back to the past to meet early versions of Tony and Steve, it could risk ruining the original characters’ endings, especially given how they finished their runs in the MCU. Having them as Variants would allow Downey Jr. and Evans, with Hemsworth’s main iteration of Thor, to create some new dynamics and make their returns to the franchise stand out more. For now, time will tell if the iconic Marvel Cinematic Universe trinity will ever share the screen again in the next couple of years.
