Marvel Studios has taken over a New York branch of McDonald’s as part of their marketing campaign for the MCU Phase 5’s Loki season 2. The announcement of the development of Loki season 2 came at the end of season 1’s finale, confirming the return of Tom Hiddleston as the titular God of Mischief. Hiddleston will once again be joined by Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, Jonathan Majors, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Eugene Cordero, and Wunmi Mosaku, reprising their roles from Phase 4. Set to release on October 6, 2023, Loki season 2 is right around the corner, and Marvel Studios’ promotion for the upcoming season has inspired a brilliant 1980s-themed McDonald’s transformation.

The @officialLoki account on Instagram featured stories on August 30, 2023, revealing that Marvel Studios has taken over a branch of McDonald’s in Brooklyn, New York, giving the restaurant a TVA-inspired makeover. This takeover brought variants dressed in TVA uniforms into the McDonald’s, introduced a new sweet-and-sour sauce inspired by Loki and Sylvie, saw McDonald’s staff sport uniforms from 1982, put props from the series on show, and lowered the prices to emulate the 1980s. What Role Could McDonald’s Play In Sylvie’s Loki Season 2 Story?

Sylvie working at McDonald's in Loki season 2

Loki season 2’s first official trailer featured Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie, a variant of Loki, seemingly working at a branch of McDonald’s, presumably on 1982 Earth. Sylvie was last seen in the Loki season 1 finale, killing He Who Remains and unraveling the Sacred Timeline, opening the door to the rise of more Kang variants and potentially leading to another multiverse war. After throwing Loki back into the TVA – albeit an alternate version – Sylvie was left alone in the Citadel at the End of Time, and her future was left uncertain.

It’s possible that Sylvie took a job at McDonald’s following the end of Loki season 1 to garner a semblance of a normal life. After being abducted by the TVA as a child, Sylvie spent her life trying to meet the Time Keepers, later He Who Remains, and kill them. With her mission completed, it’s understandable that she’d now feel lost, leading to her wanting to find a regular life for herself. Working a simple job at McDonald’s would fit this brief, though if the trailer for Loki season 2 is to be believed, this won’t last long as she once again teams up with Hiddleston’s variant.
