Hogwarts Legacy’s Alohomora puzzle lock minigame can be time-consuming and frustrating. To skip, players can use mods or make an easy settings tweak.
In Hogwarts Legacy, the Unlocking Charm Alohomora isn’t nearly as effortless as it’s depicted in the books and movies, requiring players to complete a mini-game that can actually be skipped. Players learn Alohomora from Hogwarts caretaker Gladwin Moon during The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament quest, in which he instructs players on how to use the Unlocking Charm to pick locks. However, there are dozens of locks in Hogwarts Castle and Hogsmeade alone, which makes searching for new gear and items both time-consuming and frustrating.
Players can find plenty of interesting things behind locked doors in Hogwarts Legacy, ranging from oddities such as Demiguise Statues to useful gear. Naturally, more technically-minded PC players might be tempted to use mods such as Autohomora from modder VTLI to skip the minigame and make Alohomora much more efficient at picking locks. Unfortunately, installation is a little tricky and modding is very much limited to PC. For players on all platforms, a simple tweak can make using the Unlocking Charm a breeze.
How To Skip Alohomora Puzzle Locks
The easiest way players can skip Hogwarts Legacy’s Alohomora puzzle locks is to make a quick settings tweak by turning down their game difficulty to Story. This adds a time-saving auto-solve button to the Alohomora puzzle lock minigames that appear when players interact with locks. Players will still have to solve Hogwarts Castle’s Arithmancy Doors and other puzzles without help, but this button essentially allows players to bypass the puzzle lock minigame.
Luckily for Trophy Hunters, none of Hogwarts Legacy’s achievements or trophies are tied to the game’s difficulty.
As such, players should find that their trophies and achievements all still pop as normal. However, players should keep in mind that they still have to interact with locks and open the puzzle lock minigame to use auto-solve. Unfortunately, the button prompt doesn’t allow players to avoid the minigame entirely.
Another important caveat is that players will still find Level I, II, and III Alohomora locks. To unlock Level II and III locks, players need to collect Demiguise statues in Hogsmeade, Hogwarts, and the Highlands. Gladwin Moon will then teach players more powerful versions of the Unlocking Charm that work on more advanced locks. Unfortunately, switching to Story difficulty isn’t the most elegant solution, but it’s still a solid workaround for Hogwarts Legacy players looking to avoid a bit of tedium.
