Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s DLC packs want to add a hefty amount of familiar Pokemon to the game, with a handful of new additions joining in.

With the recent announcement of two DLC packs for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, a new question has been brought up about how large the Pokédex for the game will be. Recent Pokémon games have scrapped the idea of a National Dex that holds every Pokémon ever created for a Regional Dex that only includes some. This has come with some ire from the community as while the Regional Pokédexes are expansive, some Pokémon are regretfully being left out. However, Scarlet and Violet have done a better job of managing this when compared to the previous two generations.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet‘s DLC, The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, has been split into two expansions for players to explore. The first of two revealed at February 2023’s Pokémon Presents, The Teal Mask, will be released in Fall 2023 and will bring players away from Paldea to the land of Kitakami, filled with mysteries surrounding the island’s folk tales. The second expansion, The Indigo Disk, is planned for Winter 2023 and takes players to the underwater Blueberry Academy that focuses its time on Pokémon battles.

How Many Many Pokémon Scarlet & Violet’s Pokédex Will Have After DLC

According to the Pokémon website, 230 Pokémon that are already familiar to fans will be added across Scarlet and Violet‘s two expansions. This does not include the three Kitakami Pokémon, two new Legendaries, and at least two more Paradox Pokémon. So currently, that means at least 237 Pokémon are coming in Scarlet and Violet‘s DLC expansions, but there is a strong chance that number will be higher.

This is also a slight upgrade from the 200 Sword and Shield gave players and includes many Pokémon that haven’t been seen in generations. So overall, adding the 237 confirmed additions to the 400 already in the game, Scarlet and Violet‘s Pokédex will rise to at least 637, though the final number will likely remain a mystery until the DLC launches.

What Pokémon Are Being Added To Scarlet And Violet

A handful of the older Pokémon set to return in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero have already been confirmed: Metagross, Zebstrika, Dewgong, Milotic, Ninetales, Vikavolt, and Shiftry. Conversely, new Paradox Pokémon Walking Wake and Iron Leaves’ Scarlet and Violet Tera Raids are already in the game following their reveal alongside the DLC. Most of the returning Pokémon that will be added have already seen an appearance in recent titles, but others, like Zebstrika, have not been obtainable in games since their original addition. It seems likely that other long-absent Pokémon will make their way into Scarlet and Violet via DLC as well.

Though not much is official regarding Scarlet and Violet‘s new DLC Pokémon, the pure number alone is a significant relief for players. Since the National Dex is likely not returning to the franchise anytime soon, significant additions like this are the best players can ask for, especially with the variety this one seems to include. There is also a chance more Pokémon could be added down the line, but for now, expect at least 237 Pokémon to be added in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet‘s DLC packs.
