Dwayne Johnson’s new Fast & Furious spinoff movie for Hobbs has the opportunity to introduce a character the franchise teased six years ago. Johnson’s future as Luke Hobbs in the Fast & Furious franchise got a big boost thanks to his surprise return in Fast X‘s post-credits scene. The scene confirmed that The Rock was back in the major action franchise and would factor into the already announced eleventh entry of the main series. It was announced shortly thereafter that this was part of a bigger plan for Dwayne Johnson’s return that included a new Hobbs Fast & Furious spinoff movie.

Details on the upcoming Hobbs spinoff movie are scarce for the time being, other than indications that it will serve as a bridge between Fast X and Fast & Furious 11. Building off the Fast X post-credits tease, the new movie will see Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs and Jason Momoa’s Dante Reyes square off. The lacking information about the upcoming movie leaves room for speculation about what the story will be, as well as who will appear. There is already an expectation that other Fast & Furious characters connected to Hobbs will return. The Hobbs spinoff could also introduce a character teased years ago.

Hobbs’ New Spinoff Can Finally Introduce His Sister

The Fast & Furious spinoff movie might be the place where the franchise finally introduces Hobbs’ sister. The movies have continued to build up Hobbs’ family life in various installments, tying him to the franchise’s core familial values. This began with introducing his daughter Samantha in Furious 7 before Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw took audiences to Hawaii to meet Hobbs’ mom, brothers, and other family members. However, the previous Hobbs spinoff did not fulfill a tease from The Fate of the Furious that Hobbs has a sister.

The Fate of the Furious included a quick line that confirmed the existence of Luke Hobbs’ sister to explain where Samantha was while he helped try to stop Cipher and Dominic Toretto. The movie does not show Sam going to be Hobbs’ sister or her returning to him for the ending. This became even more confusing through Hobbs & Shaw as Sam is once again left in her care without a proper introduction of the character. Now that another Hobbs spinoff movie is happening in the Fast & Furious franchise, the time is right for Luke’s sister and Sam’s aunt to finally be introduced.

How Hobbs’ Sister Can Fit Into The New Fast & Furious Movie

There is a very natural way for Hobbs’ sister to be included in the Fast & Furious spinoff movie too. Fast X established Dante’s motives as wanting to torture those responsible for killing his father before ultimately making them feel that same pain. Dante went after various members of Dominic Toretto’s biological family and his familial crew to do this to Vin Diesel’s character. Since Hobbs was responsible for killing Dante’s dad, it stands to reason that he will also go after Luke’s loved ones. This could put Sam in harm’s way while she is staying with Hobbs’ sister again or mean every member of Luke’s family becomes a target.

Since the Fast & Furious movies have not revealed any information about Hobbs’ sister, there is room for the upcoming spinoff to make her someone who can help Luke fight back against Dante. The Hobbs family has proven to be incredibly resourceful in the past, so the same could be true for his mystery sister. Hobbs’ sister’s introduction in the Fast & Furious spinoff would help expand the franchise and bring another prominent female character to the series.
