Visionary cartoonist Matt Lesniewski is back, this time with Faceless & the Family for Oni Press. Matt Lesniewski is an artist/writer who is perhaps best known for his Eisner-nominated work The Freak, Crimson Flower for Dark Horse Comics, and his fan art for properties like Moon Knight. He has also self-published a number of explosive works, including Alone Again and Arctic Hell.

Lesniewski is back with a new four-part miniseries, Faceless & the Family, set to be published by Oni Press. On the broken and warped world of the Hand Planet there is someone known only as Faceless, a man who lost his name after being exiled in shame. He wanders aimlessly across the planet until he runs into a band of similarly displaced travelers who he will soon call his family — as long as they can survive a suicide mission in the class-segregated Finger Cities.

Together, these misfits are on a quest to help Faceless regain what lies beneath Faceless’ helmet — along with his hope in humanity. Faceless & The Family #1 will debut as a double-sized 48-page issue in November. The main cover above is by Lesniewski. Screen Rant can exclusively reveal new variant covers by Lesniewski, Juan Gedeon, and Dustin Weaver, all below.

An in-demand writer/artist and a frequent self-publisher, that Lesniewski has chosen to publish this new work with Oni Press is telling. But, as he says in the press release, Lesniewski believes Oni to be the best publisher for this story: “I’m really happy to have found the perfect publisher in Oni, who are going the extra mile to showcase Faceless in the best possible way,” said Lesniewski in the statement. “This comic has taken me more time and effort than any of my previous ones, and I hope it shows. If you like super detailed art, black and white comics and just general weirdness, then this will be a treat!”

Oni Press has published celebraed graphic novels in the past, such as Gender Queer, The Tea Dragon Tapestry, Scott Pilgrim, The Black Mage, Mooncakes, and Princess Princess Ever After — to name just a few examples. Identity is a running theme at the center of typical Oni stories, especially in terms of a character exploring their identity or trying to carve one out for themselves. Given that Faceless & the Family is about a character who literally loses their identity through the experience of exile, this new story continues that theme. Oni truly is the perfect press for a story like this.

In addition, given the publisher’s pedigree in distributing quality content, audiences should expect another stellar story ready to hit shelves. Oni Press drops Matt Lesniewski’s Faceless & the Family #1 in November.
