Traditionally, Summer sees a bit of a drought for the gaming industry, but this is certainly not the case this year with a huge amount of video games releasing throughout June 2023, including new mainline entries for Final Fantasy, Street Fighter, and Diablo. Among the many games releasing in June 2023, those major franchises will be making a return alongside a vast range of titles spanning a variety of genres on all platforms.

On top of the brand-new entries and content in long-established franchises, June will continue with this nostalgia with the Sonic Origins Plus bundle, which will bring all Sonic the Hedgehog’s Game Gear entries to modern consoles, adding 12 new titles to the collection on top of the four titles seen in last year’s Sonic Origins. In addition to the release of full titles, several large expansions and seasons for titles such as The Elder Scrolls Online and Overwatch 2 will be released in June.

Many highly-anticipated game series return this June. The Final Fantasy universe will be expanding with its new PS5-exclusive entry Final Fantasy 16 on June 22, following protagonist Clive across three separate periods of his life, starting in his 20s as he explores the land of Valisthea. Another major RPG release on June 6 is Diablo 4, which will take place fifty years after the events of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls and will have the Holy One, Inaris’ feud with the demonic Lilith playing a key part in the game’s story. True to the Diablo series’ roots, players can form teams with a variety of multiplayer options from online to couch co-op as they explore the world of Sanctuary.

Continuing on the multiplayer front, Street Fighter 6 is launching June 2, and the newest entry in the iconic fighting series will see its 18-character roster battling it out across a variety of exciting modes and online play, but will also include an open-world single-player World Tour mode in which players can create their own character. The Crash Bandicoot universe will also make a return on June 20 with a competitive 4v4 multiplayer title, Crash Team Rumble, which will see teams comprised of the series’ many heroes and villains competing to capture the most Wumpa Fruit.

Adding to the demonic aesthetic of Diablo 4, June 2023 seems to be a big month for horror franchises as well. The survival-horror series, Amnesia‘s World War 1-set entry, Amnesia: The Bunker was delayed out of May by two weeks due to certification issues and is now launching June 6. Meanwhile, Layers of Fear, an Unreal Engine 5 remake of 2016’s Layers of Fear and its 2019 follow-up Layers of Fear 2 is releasing on June 15 with an expanded narrative and a third protagonist, The Writer, who will be linking together the previous games’ events.
