Goten and Trunks’ high school adventure is already over, and fans can’t wait for Gohan and Piccolo to take the stage in Dragon Ball Super’s new arc.

Warning: SPOILERS for chapter #90 of Dragon Ball SuperDragon Ball Super‘s “Super Hero Prequel Arc” has finally concluded with chapter #90. While Goten and Trunks’ high school adventure was a fun little diversion from Dragon Ball‘s usual tone, fans can’t wait for the manga to start adapting the story of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, which will mark the debut of Gohan and Piccolo’s new powerful transformations.

Chapter #90 of Dragon Ball Super concludes Goten and Trunks’ story, as Saiyaman X-1 and X-2 finally apprehend Dr. Hedo and his androids. Thanks to Mai’s cunning, Hedo is lured to a dance at the boys’ school, using his passion for the fictional superhero Cleangod as bait. After joining forces with Kuririn, Goten and Trunks follow Hedo to his secret lab, where they defeat one final android built with dinosaur parts. After that, Hedo is sent to prison but only for a short time, and fans who have watched Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero know that he shows up again at the start of the movie.

The Super Hero Prequel Arc Fells Mostly Like Filler

dragon ball super super hero prequel arc conclusion dr hedo

The past three chapters of Dragon Ball Super served as a prequel to the actual Super Hero Arc. They bridged the gap between the end of the Granolah Arc and the beginning of Super Hero, and introduced the grown-up versions of Trunks and Goten, besides giving some more context to Dr. Hedo’s story. However, despite its qualities, this prequel feels mostly like filler. The villains were never an actual threat, and the story did not add any relevant development. It did not help that, besides Trunks and Goten, none of the other main characters, including Piccolo and Gohan, actually showed up.

This prequel actually had its merits. It was a nice slice-of-life story in a high school setting that was very reminding of Gohan’s college arc in Dragon Ball Z. While fans of this franchise are in it mostly for the epic fights and awesome power-ups, it’s good to see the characters in a different setting once in a while. The Super Hero prequel also expanded on the controversial romance between Trunks and Mai, and had the latter grow into a fully-fledged character that could play a bigger role in the future of the story.

Despite The Prequel’s Merits, Fans Still Want To See Gohan And Piccolo

However, despite all this, the looming presence of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero‘s story means that most readers are happy that the prequel has ended after just three chapters. The majority of fans want to see Gohan and Piccolo take the stage in the manga, as they did in the movie, and their epic battle against Android Gamma 1 and 2, and Cell Max. Perhaps the Dragon Ball Super manga will also explain more in detail Gohan and Piccolo’s new powerful transformation and, now that the Trunks and Goten filler/prequel is over, fans won’t have to wait too long to find out.
