Google‘s Pixel 7 series offers users a stock Android experience and impressive cameras, but do they support dual SIM? As smartphones have evolved over time, flagship devices have included many new cutting-edge features while also omitting some basic ones such as an audio jack, SD card slot, and capacitive fingerprint scanner. However, some buyers have specific requirements that go beyond a phone’s flagship capabilities, such as dual SIM, a headphone jack, and expandable storage.
The good news is that the Pixel 7 series, like previous Pixel models such as the Pixel 6a, support dual SIM. Both the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro can connect to two 5G networks in dual SIM mode at the same time. With the Pixel 3a, Google began offering dual SIM options with one physical nano SIM card slot and one e-SIM. However, the Pixel 4a and later Pixel devices, including the Pixel 7, can connect to 5G networks in dual SIM mode. Dual SIM support on the Pixel 7 can be very useful for users who prefer to have two separate phone numbers for work and personal usage, or who travel abroad frequently and use a local SIM card to avoid roaming fees.
How To Set Up Dual SIM On The Pixel 7
Unlike the iPhone 14 that is eSIM-only, the Pixel 7 has a SIM tray to insert one physical nano SIM in addition to e-SIM support. Users can set up dual SIM on the Pixel 7 in a couple of ways, depending on which SIM was set up first. If a user has already set up their primary number using a physical SIM card, they will need to add the second SIM as an eSIM. To do this, go to the phone’s Settings, tap on ‘Network & Internet’ and then the ‘+’ icon next to ‘Mobile network.’ Tap on ‘Download a SIM instead?’. When prompted to ‘Use 2 SIMs?’ tap on ‘Yes.’ After the phone updates, open Settings again, tap on ‘Network & internet,’ then ‘Mobile network,’ and follow the instructions to set up the e-SIM.
Alternatively, if the user uses an e-SIM as their primary number, setting up a physical SIM as their second number is much simpler. Insert a SIM card into the Pixel 7’s SIM tray. When prompted to confirm using two SIM cards, tap ‘Yes’ on the pop-up window and wait for the phone to update. Once completed, open the Settings app and select ‘Network & internet.’ Tap on ‘Mobile networks’ and select a SIM card to enable it.
The Pixel 7 also has Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) like many other Android devices with dual SIM support these days, allowing users to choose which SIM to use for calls, data, messaging, and other functions. To configure this, go to Settings, tap ‘Network and internet,’ then ‘SIMs,’ and select the mobile network. Pixel 7 users can only assign mobile data to one SIM at a time, but calls and texts can be assigned to one SIM or left to ‘Ask me every time.’
