Creed II neatly wraps up Adonis Creed’s (Michael B. Jordan) and Rocky Balboa’s (Sylvester Stallone) stories, but here’s what to expect from Creed III.

As its release date draws near, there are plenty of exciting Creed III updates to get fans ready for this latest installment. In 2015, Ryan Coogler revived the Rocky franchise at MGM and took it in an entirely different direction. Instead of bringing back Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa, the new story focused on Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan), the illegitimate son of Apollo Creed. Seeking to follow in his father’s footsteps and prove himself in the ring, Adonis seeks out the help of Rocky who trains him. The Creed III news that Michael B. Jordan would be stepping behind the camera for this third entry makes it all the more intriguing.

Creed was released to overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, and that excitement carried over to its run at the worldwide box office. Creed II continued to shape Adonis Creed’s legacy. With Stallone’s Rocky not involved in this story, Jordan making his directorial debut, and the addition of Jonathan Majors as a formidable new opponent for Adonis to face in the ring, Creed III looks to be an exciting new direction for the franchise. Along with other Creed III updates, the movie looks to be a promising continuation of the series.

Creed III: Latest News

Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors in Creed 3

The latest Creed III news gives fans a little more footage for the anticipated sequel. Creed III was one of many movies releasing a trailer for the 2023 Super Bowl. While the new TV spot doesn’t go into as much detail as the first trailer, it further cements that Jonathan Majors’ antagonist is a real threat looking to take everything from Adonis. Also, the first reactions to Creed III have been largely positive with praise for Jordan’s directorial debut while also pointing to Majors as a highlight and a terrific role alongside his MCU villain Kang the Conqueror.

Creed III: Release Date

Creed III will hit theaters on March 3, 2023. The previous movie, Creed II came out on November 21, 2018, so there has been a considerable wait for this sequel. However, with Michael B. Jordan’s packed schedule, his pre-production prep as the new director, and various delays from the COVID-19 pandemic, it is not surprising that it took so long.

Creed III: Cast

Some of the most exciting Creed III news comes from the returning actors and new additions to the cast. Along with being director, Michael B. Jordan will return as Adonis Creed. Also returning is Tessa Thompson as Bianca, Adonis’ wife. Phylicia Rashad is also returning as Adonis’ mother Mary Anne Creed, while Wood Harris is back as Little Duke, Adonis’ trainer. Interestingly, Florian Munteanu will also be back as Viktor Drago, Adonis’ opponent from the last movie. One notable missing factor in the movie is Sylvester Stallone who will not be back as Rocky Balboa. Initially, Stallone simply said he was not returning because it was Adonis’ story now and there was no room for Rocky. However, he more recently expressed disappointment that the sequel went in a direction that was different from his own vision.

While it is disappointing that there will be a movie in this franchise without Rocky, the arrival of Jonathan Majors as Damian looks to be an excellent new addition. Damian is a villain tied directly to Adonis’ past and one who is targeting him on a personal level. Majors is quickly becoming one of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood with movies like The Harder They Fall, Magazine Dreams, and his very exciting and pivotal role as Kang in the MCU. Creed III looks to be another commanding performance for the rising star.

Creed III: Story Details

Creed III updates Adnonis’ story several years after the events of Creed II. Adonis has been crowned as the champ, Bianca’s music career is a success, and they are raising a family with their young daughter. However, the arrival of someone from Adonis’ past may bring down their happy life. Damian (Majors) was a childhood friend of Adonis who is recently released from prison. He feels as though Adonis stole his promising career as a boxer and gradually works to become a challenger for the title and bring Adonis, and everything he has worked hard for, down. Each entry in the Creed franchise has been an emotionally changed sports story and it looks like Creed III is not different with personal stakes and a villain who truly challenges Adonis.

Creed III: Trailer

The Creed III news that got fans most excited about the movie was the first trailer released in October 2022. It showed off the storyline with Damian as a former friend of Adonis recently released from prison and looking to take back the life that he believes was taken from him. A second teaser trailer was released during Super Bowl 2023. While the new footage didn’t reveal much new about what to expect, it further cemented Majors’ Damian as an intimidating force to be reckoned with who could be Creed’s biggest test yet.
