DC’s next blockbuster, Blue Beetle, is finally here, but those looking to listen to the movie’s soundtrack will have to wait a bit longer. Despite the DCEU coming to an end and the James Gunn and Peter Safran-led DC Universe about to begin, Blue Beetle has found itself in an interesting position sitting somewhere between the two. Originally planned as a Max-exclusive streaming movie, Blue Beetle was later shifted to the silver screen. While not officially a new DC Universe movie, Gunn has clarified that Blue Beetle is the first DCU character and will continue into the new shared universe.
While three different people have donned the name Blue Beetle in DC Comics, the character’s cinematic debut will focus on the third – Jaime Reyes. Blue Beetle‘s plot revolves around Reyes, a young man that becomes the unwilling host of a piece of symbiotic alien tech. The Scarab, as it’s called, grants Reyes an incredibly powerful suit capable of adapting and creating a variety of weaponry and defensive tools. Jaime’s possession of the Scarab puts him at odds with Victoria Kord, the sister of DC Comics’ former Blue Beetle Ted Kord, and the powerful Carapax the Indestructible Man.

The full soundtrack for Blue Beetle has not yet been released. However, some details have been revealed about the score ahead of the movie’s full release on August 18. WaterTower Music is in charge of Blue Beetle‘s musical score, aptly titled Blue Beetle (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack). Original music has been composed by industry veteran Bobby Krlic, best known for his work on movies such as Midsommar and Beau Is Afraid and the television series Beef and Snowpiercer.
Krlic, also known professionally as The Haxan Cloak, has commented on the unique challenges and opportunities of creating Blue Beetle‘s score. Per the composure, the Blue Beetle soundtrack is “at once unique, challenging and expansive, whilst also being able to exist within a superhero story” (via BusinessWire). The movie’s marketing has featured catchy, modern synth music that’s mirrored in the only officially-released track so far: “Blue Beetle Suite.”
