Barbieland’s Real Location Scientifically Calculated By Neil deGrasse Tyson (But Is He Right?)

Neil deGrasse Tyson has scientifically calculated where the Barbie movie’s Barbieland would be if it were a real location on Earth. In the Barbie movie, Barbieland is a mystical location where Barbies and Kens thrive. The film establishes that Barbieland and Earth are two different locations, especially once Barbie and Ken go to California on a mission of self-discovery.

Now, Neil deGrasse Tyson has calculated where Barbieland from the Barbie movie would be if it were a real location.

Using the orientation of the Moon and the way the Sun and Moon set, Tyson was able to determine the probable latitude of Barbieland. He posits the fictional world would be in the Flordia Keys if it were a real, Earthly location.

Barbie Continues To Be A Worldwide Success

While Tyson believes Barbieland would be located in Florida if it were real, the Barbie movie clearly establishes it as another world. This means that, while Barbieland may have some characteristics that could place it in Florida, it likely exists in a reality separate from Earth. Even so, it appears Barbieland took some inspiration from the Florida Keys based on Tyson’s analysis.

As for the real world, Barbie continues to be a box office behemoth, earning $1.06 billion worldwide at the time of writing. Not only has Barbie crossed $1 billion worldwide, but ticket sales for the movie indicate its success won’t be slowing anytime soon. As Barbie approaches its fourth opening weekend, there’s no telling just how high its earnings will skyrocket.

Tyson’s calculation of where Barbieland would be if it were real underscores a Florida influence behind the setting. However, the only Earthly impact Barbie has had is massive popularity in cinemas. Even so, Barbie clearly pulled detailed inspiration from Florida in its presentation, something that could be noticed by those going to see the film during the rest of its theatrical run.
