Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will feature a mostly new team of MCU heroes according to Disney CEO Bob Iger. Marvel Studios announced plans for more Avengers movies last year, three years after the release of Avengers: Endgame. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) and written by Michael Waldron (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania), Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is set for release in 2025. Audiences have seen the MCU introduce several new characters during the Multiverse Saga who could join established heroes as part of the next Avengers team, but no members have been officially announced by the studios.

Walt Disney Studios CEO Bob Iger has now offered a big tease about the state of the Avengers team in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, as he indicates a whole new group will assemble. During an appearance at Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference (via Deadline), Iger spoke about Marvel’s future and briefly teased which MCU heroes will be on Avengers 5‘s team. He described the return of the team in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty as including “a whole new set of Avengers.” The team originally included Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Hulk, but half of these characters are dead or retired. Read Iger’s full quote below:

There’s nothing in any way inherently off in terms of the Marvel brand. I think we just have to look at what characters and stories we’re mining. If you look at the trajectory of Marvel in the next five years, there will be a lot of newness. We’re going to turn back to the Avengers franchise with a whole new set of Avengers, for example.

MCU Heroes Who Could Be On The Avengers Team In Kang Dynasty

Marvel Studios has worked hard in recent years to introduce several new MCU heroes who could be on the Avengers team in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. It is expected that Shang-Chi will return after his solo film, especially with Cretton directing the film, while Blade could join the team too. The MCU movies have introduced other characters like Yelena Belova, Hercules, and Namor who could join the Avengers 5 team. Similarly, the Disney+ shows have made strong cases for Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Kate Bishop, Monica Rambeau, and others to become official team members next.

Bob Iger’s quote does not necessarily mean that already established heroes who have worked with the Avengers will not return. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty could still see Spider-Man, Sam Wilson’s Captain America, Captain Marvel, Shuri’s Black Panther, and others be leaders on the team. They have each played roles in past Avengers movies, but they have each become more important to the franchise since then. It is even possible that Doctor Strange, Thor, Hulk, War Machine, Ant-Man, Wasp, Hawkeye, or the Guardians of the Galaxy will count among the MCU heroes back for Avengers 5.

Marvel Studios has no shortage of characters at its disposal, but not all of them are likely to be on the Avengers 5 team. Unless they assemble elsewhere first, the movie will be tasked with bringing the Avengers team together for the first time since Avengers: Endgame. Creating a group dynamic among dozens of heroes will not be easy, especially since most of them have not shared meaningful time with one another. It should be fun to see which heroes join the Avengers team in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty then.
