90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way fans accuse the show of misogyny with its recent storylines like Nicole and Mahmoud’s and Daniele and Yohan’s.

90 Day Fiancé fans think there has been a lot of misogyny in the recent 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way storylines. This season introduced couples like Nicole Sherbiny and her husband Mahmoud and Jen Boecher and her partner Rishi Singh. The season also welcomed back Daniele Gates and Yohan Geronimo from Love in Paradise: The Caribbean. Every The Other Way relationship has its red flags, but one of Nicole’s biggest issues is Mahmoud wants to control how she dresses because, in his religion, women aren’t allowed to show a lot of skin. He also doesn’t want her to interact with many other men.

Unfortunately, fans think 90 Day Fiancé‘s Nicole and Mahmoud storyline and others are misogynistic. Reddit user @catpunch_ brought this to attention, writing, “Normally I know it’s another culture, and it’s just different, etc. But a few things happening back to back really make it hard not to just feel for the women.” The fan pointed out that Yohan told Daniele that he wouldn’t do any housework because that’s the woman’s job, and Rishi’s mom expects him to get married, so she no longer has to do housework for him, but his wife will instead. The 90 Day Fiancé fan also agrees with Nicole and doesn’t like that Mahmoud tells her how to dress.

90 Day Fiancé Fans Don’t Think Sexism Should Be Excused As Religion

Nicole 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 4

I feel you. It’s a man’s world…in every country on earth,” another fan responded. Some feel that even 90 Day Fiancé fans can be misogynistic toward the cast members, and they don’t like that a lot of fans excuse sexism as someone else’s religion. “Some of the “do your research crowd” loves excusing shitty behavior as cultural even tho they probably know little of the culture themselves,” another 90 Day Fiancé fan added. The fan was referring to other fans who don’t feel sorry for the women on 90 Day Fiancé because they get involved with men from other cultures without looking into those cultures first.

There are certainly a lot of sexist messages on 90 Day Fiancé this season. While Mahmoud’s religion may expect women to dress a certain way, fans have the right to be offended, especially during the recent episode when Mahmoud complained about Nicole’s outfit when the average person would think she was covered up enough. It’s especially unfortunate that Nicole and Mahmoud’s dynamic isn’t the only sexist one this season. The messages Yohan and Rishi were sending were problematic as well.

However, 90 Day Fiancé fans do make the point that the people on the show never look into the cultures of the people their dating before diving headfirst into the relationship. While a lot of the cultures are problematic toward women, no one is forcing Nicole or anyone else on the show into the relationships. They’ve chosen to be with those people, and if they don’t like their morals and beliefs, they can easily be with someone else. Though, it would be nice if 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way featured some more empowering relationships.

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way airs Sundays at 8 pm EST On TLC.
