The OnePlus 11 has a few unique features that set it apart from other Android flagship smartphones and help it stay competitive. Since the company launched the OnePlus One in 2014, its smartphones have offered a high-value proposition with top-end specs at a much cheaper price than the competition. However, in order to maintain a low price, OnePlus cut costs by omitting some key features. OnePlus has jumped into true flagship territory since then, but its latest smartphone is a return to its roots.
The OnePlus 11 is one of the best flagship smartphones of 2023, thanks to its 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED display screen, a powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, a large 5,000mAh battery, and up to four years of OS updates. It also has some unique features, like a physical alert slider button and superfast charging.
6 Hasselblad Cameras
At the back, the OnePlus 11 comes with a third-generation Hasselblad triple-camera setup. This comprises a 50MP main camera (Sony IMX890), a 48MP ultra-wide camera (Sony IMX581), and a 32MP portrait telephoto shooter (Sony IMX709) with 2X optical zoom.
The OnePlus 11 offers richer and more accurate colors, thanks to Hasselblad’s Natural Color Calibration and a multi-spectral sensor. The portrait telephoto camera can take portraits with bokeh effects that claim to be similar to what a Hasselblad camera would capture. Other features include Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) and the ability to record videos in up to 8K resolution.
5 Alert Slider
OnePlus introduced the Alert Slider on its first smartphone, the OnePlus One, which was a unique OnePlus feature that no other Android flagships had. The Alert Slider is a fan-favorite feature that allows users to toggle between silent, vibrate, and ring modes using a physical button, all without unlocking the device.
OnePlus’ decision to remove the Alert Slider from the OnePlus 10T left many OnePlus fans disappointed, but the company brought it back with the OnePlus 11, and back to its usual location on the right edge of the phone, just above the power button. Users can quickly put their phone on silent by moving the slider to the top position, on vibrate by positioning it in the middle, and on ring by sliding it to the bottom.
4 Wi-Fi 7 Ready
One of the unique features of the OnePlus 11 is Wi-Fi 7 connectivity support, at a time when most other Android flagships support only Wi-Fi 6E. Wi-Fi 7 provides a faster and more stable connection than Wi-Fi 6E, with double the bandwidth at up to 320MHz, resulting in a speed of over 30Gbps.
The downside is that the majority of Wi-Fi routers do not currently support Wi-Fi 7, with even routers supporting Wi-Fi 6E quite uncommon. Nonetheless, the OnePlus 11’s support for Wi-Fi 7 certainly makes it future-proof. However, in order to comply with international regulations, the OnePlus 11 lacks the ability to use Wi-Fi 7 out of the box, and the feature will be available via a software update at a later date.
3 Up to 16GB RAM Support
OnePlus 11 buyers can select 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of storage on the highest variant. Most other Android flagships max out at 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM. It goes without saying that having more RAM makes switching between apps smooth and gives processor-intensive tasks like gaming an extra boost. The base variant, however, starts with 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 128GB of storage.
2 80W Fast Wired Charging
OnePlus is known for providing ultra-fast charging for its smartphones, and has only gotten faster over the years, giving its flagships a significant advantage over the competition. The OnePlus 11 has a 5,000mAh dual-cell battery and supports 80W fast charging speeds in the U.S. (100W in other markets). The 80W SUPERVOOC charger can fully charge the phone battery in around 25 minutes (Less than 20 minutes at 100W), which is incredibly fast.
While the OnePlus 11 misses out on wireless charging support, its wired charging speeds blow rivals like Samsung and Google out of the water. It’s also worth mentioning that the OnePlus 11 is among the few flagships that ship with a wired charger in the box.
1 $699 Starting Price
The OnePlus 10 Pro had an affordable starting price of $799, but this time around OnePlus is going all out, with the OnePlus 11 starting at $699 for the base model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. In contrast, the Google Pixel 7 Pro starts at $899, while the base model of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra costs $1,199.
Even though OnePlus deviated from its affordable flagship strategy with a few subpar product releases over the years, the latest OnePlus 11 is bringing the company back on track. By adhering to OnePlus’s motto of offering high-end specs and unique features at a relatively low cost, the OnePlus 11 is reclaiming its position as one of the best affordable Android flagships.
